There are many valid comparisons which can be made between the situations of (1) Taiwan after WWII in the Pacific, and (2) Cuba after the Spanish American War.
Most important is to recognize that both Taiwan and Cuba were both non-sovereign entities for a lengthy period of time. Under such circumstances, the question arises: "What type of travel documents should the local islanders be holding?" Indeed it is commonly seen that many researchers are very confused about this aspect.
This video overviews relevant precedent, thereby quickly finding an answer to this perplexing question. Please watch the video for full details.

he recent White House press briefing on Taiwan passport matters left many issues unresolved. Thankfully, more and more news reporters are becoming aware of the seriousness of this issue, and then pressing US Executive Branch officials for further explanations.
If the legal status of Taiwan is "unresolved," as US officials continually state, where is the legal basis for native Taiwanese people to be holding Republic of China passports that identify them as having "ROC nationality" ? Isn't such an arrangement a direct violation of the One China Policy?
Should US officials look more carefully at the post-war San Francisco Peace Treaty for legal guidance on this issue?
Increasing numbers of reporters are beginning to investigate all aspects of this Taiwan passport problem. It is expected that more and more reportage will appear in the United States and international news media in the election year of 2016.
